The miraculous herb Saw Palmetto is a harmless and effective alternative for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Men taking Saw Palmetto report improvement by over 50% of symptoms caused by prostate enlargement.
The Saw Palmetto herb is already famous all around the world for alleviating urinary symptoms accompanying prostate enlargement – usually these include frequent and painful urination. A research published in the Phytotherapy Research journal shows that this miraculous plant also improves the sexual function which is often affected in men suffering from benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
The beneficial herb
Enlarged prostate – a condition also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) – is a common cause for sexual dysfunction which manifests in men by loss of libido and erection problems. Unfortunately, some medications used to treat this condition can cause sexual dysfunction as a side effect. This is precisely why a lot of men look for alternative methods of treatment that are effective and harmless.
In the above-mentioned research published in the Phytotherapy Research journal 69 men participated (at the average age of 57 years). They received 320 mg of extract from the Saw Palmetto herb daily (the extract provides 275 mg of fatty acids) for a period of eight weeks. The symptoms of the participants were measured at the beginning and at the end of the treatment through questionnaires. At the end of the research the men reported a reduction of symptoms by 50% on average and an improved sexual function by more than 30%.
The authors of the research comment that these results are extremely promising and give reason for the prescription of Saw Palmetto to men with mild or moderate form of enlarged prostate, since it improves simultaneously their urinary and sexual function without causing unwanted side effects like standard medications.
Saw Palmetto – the harmless plant
Almost all of the men in that research stated that they prefer a herb with proven efficacy and harmlessness instead of prescription medications.
However, bear in mind that the simultaneous intake of plant extracts and medications can cause adverse reactions. That’s why it’s important to consult your physician before starting to take any dietary supplement.
