Heartburn? Natural remedies soothe without destroying your kidneys!

I recall the first time I experienced heartburn. It’s one of those things that, when you’re young, adults talk about and you nod politely like you know what they’re talking about. Until it happens. Then, you’re all like, “OH, so that’s what they’ve been talking about all these years!”

Yes, heartburn sucks. And yes, there are a multitude of over-the-counter and prescription remedies that can ease it. But wait, did you know that some of these can cause kidney failure? Crazy!

Is there a better way to confront heartburn? Sure, eat better. “Yeah, right,” you say. Not going to happen. OK, then supplement. Add some digestive enzymes to your routine, eat some ginger or take it as capsules. Make sure you get enough fiber. These solutions alone can save you from resorting to the strong stuff.

And if you’re going to go that far, consider making real change in your lifestyle. Get out and exercise a little—it stimulates digestion and the heart—and be kind to your friends and neighbors—this, too has been shown to mediate gastrointestinal disturbance.
