Procreative age

Women need different nutrients during the different periods of their lives. When you choose dietary supplements you must consider your age and your current hormonal balance. A 20-year-old lady surely needs different nutrients from those needed during menopause. And during the procreative years extra caution is advisable, since besides personal health women must think of the health of their unborn babies.

Folic acid

Folic acid is important for every person but is essential for pregnant women, as well as for those trying to get pregnant. Folic acid is part of the vitamin B complex. Its intake during pregnancy can significantly reduce the risk of giving birth to a child with brain damage or spinal cord disorders. If taken additionally as a dietary supplement, folic acid should not be discontinued after childbirth because it’s very important for breastfeeding mothers, too.

Menopause

A large part of the changes in our lives turn out to be for the best. And very often the mature years turn out to be the best years of a person’s life. Don’t necessarily associate this age with unpleasant sensations such as hot flashes, mood changes and other disorders. These symptoms appear when the levels of the hormone estrogen in the body change. The main way to fight the unpleasant sensations during menopause is to take dietary supplements who deliver estrogens (phytoestrogens). Usually they are plant-based and imitate real hormones in our body. Bugbane, red clover, soy isoflavones and flaxseed lignans contain phytoestrogens. Black cohosh is probably the most famous supplement recommended during menopause but all of the above have their positive effect. You know that some dietary supplements have a stronger effect than others. Maybe the best way to choose the one most suitable for you is to try several variants until you find what works most effectively for you. There are products that contain not only one but several phytoestrogens from different sources which is also a great option. Of course, you should always consult your physician. They will guide you and help you make the right choice. Women of a certain age should also take supplements which improve the health of the breasts, bones and the libido. Because all women of all ages deserve the best!

Fight the signs of aging

There’s no other way – with advancing age the signs of aging appear. Every person wants to look younger, to have a tight and glowing skin without wrinkles. Anti-aging creams are a wonderful means to solve this problem but are not the only solution. Again dietary supplements come to the rescue here. Some of them can very effectively erase the signs of aging.

Coenzyme Q10

One of the main reasons for aging is the fact that the levels of some hormones and important nutrients in the body drop with every year. Let’s take CoQ10 for example. This is an enzyme catalyst which is essential for the generation of energy in every cell of our body. Unfortunately, with advancing age our body loses its ability to absorb CoQ10 naturally from the foods containing it, such as fish and eggs. We start to feel the consequences but cannot always discover what’s causing them. In healthy people CoQ10 is highly concentrated in the heart, kidneys and liver but all systems of the body need CoQ10 to function well and properly.

Alpha-lipoic acid

Medical anti-aging specialists around the world put more and more efforts in understanding how some nutrients keep the integrity of our tissues. This in its turn has a huge impact on our overall health. Most of you surely think that protein can be found only in muscles. But don’t forget that muscle tissue is much more than impressively bulging biceps or attractively rounded gluteus. Heart is the main muscle in our body but muscle tissue builds up many other important organs in the body, too. Skin is made up of collagen, another type of protein structure, which is also found in the cartilages of all joints. Alpha-lipoic acid is first among the nutrients useful for protein structures.

DHEA

The body produces DHEA naturally but similar to many other nutrients this ability decreases with age. DHEA circulates through the blood flow. Although scientists are not unanimous regarding the role of DHEA in the body, many believe that the decrease in its production by the adrenal glands can lead to a deterioration of the physical and mental health with advancing age.

Vitamins C and E

The list of important anti-aging dietary supplements won’t be full, unless we mention two antioxidants – vitamin C and vitamin E. Vitamin C keeps us young in several ways. First, it’s necessary for the production of collagen and elastin, which maintain the skin elastic, the joints – flexible, and the blood vessels – healthy. Second, this is the main nutrient supporting the health of the immune system. And this is a very complex system which has to be strong enough to protect us against the attacks of free radicals to which we are exposed daily. The immune system constantly seeks to destroy the so called antigens which do not belong to our bodies. Without this important system the human body cannot live at all. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant playing an important role in the support of the immune system and its fighters, such as T-cells, B-cells, NK-cells, macrophages, etc.

We often think that aging affects only the way we look, our appearance. But very often it affects our mental state, too. With age our ability to memorise, think and concentrate decreases. And do you know that one of the best components improving brain health is vitamin E? This is so mostly because this vitamin is fat-soluble, and the brain consists mainly of adipose tissue. This is also the building material of all protective membranes in all body cells. Besides improving cognitive function, vitamin E fights aging in other ways, too. It’s well-known that this vitamin improves the health of the cardio-vascular system, the liver and the skin. In spite of some negative studies, vitamin E must by all means be a part of your diet – regardless whether you get it through food or in the form of a dietary supplement.
